Who Are Ya? (Premier League IV)
Alan Smith
It is of course the Leeds United, Manchester United, Newcastle United, MK Dons and Notts County former striker/attacking midfielder Alan Smith. A real 2000s icon, and as a youngster growing up in Yorkshire supporting Manchester United, Alan Smith was an idol for myself. Two of the most memorable games from when I first became obsessed with football are the FA Cup game between Manchester United and Liverpool in which Smith broke his leg and dislocated his ankle, and also the aforementioned Champions League trouncing of Roma in which Smith netted United’s 2nd of the 7 they scored on the night. A feisty, aggressive and talented footballer who seemingly faded into the lower leagues towards the end of his career, but with a great history of clubs and a solid playing career many could only dream of, he’s a legend of my footballing youth for sure.
