Drop Off? 🟦 with Pep Guardiola departing from Man Drop Off? 🟦

with Pep Guardiola departing from Manchester City, and Enzo Maresca taking the reigns of the club, it’s an uncertain few weeks over the summer for City as suddenly they appear more vulnerable and possibly less appealing to potential arrivals. While the club managed pretty well prior to Pep’s appointment, it’s fair to say they stepped up another level entirely under his management which led to their domestic dominance over the last 10 years.

Although we don’t fully know how the club and Maresca will cope post-Pep, it’s fair to imagine the league will become more open in the coming seasons as this year opened the title race up further with Arsenal getting it over the line, but improvements for some of the sides just behind like United, Liverpool, Aston Villa and possibly others, could see a real battle for the domestic dominance once again in English football.

How do you think City will cope post-Guardiola? Do you think they’ll be straight back to winning titles and trophies? Or do you think they will need time to adjust and we see them drop into the pack of teams around the top 4/5?

Manchester United: Brighton (Premier League) ✍️ U Manchester United: Brighton (Premier League) ✍️

United end their season down South as they faced off against Brighton in a game that had little on the line for the visitors, while their hosts were still in a battle for European qualification. With only the Bruno Fernandes assist record as the narrative from United’s perspective, a rotated squad helped Carrick to sign off this odd season and positive interim spell as we await his permanent appointment.

Grade The Season 🟥 With Manchester United roundin Grade The Season 🟥

With Manchester United rounding off their shortest campaign in generations with a 3rd place finish, 2 interim managers and 1 record breaking performer, it’s been an up and down season to say the least. With the season showing a huge contrast from start to finish, it’s been a real season of overhaul, with the club going from last summers Europa League disappointment and ‘bomb squad’ to a complete new look attack and feeling at the club with optimism and excitement building once again.

With the dust settling on the campaign, we want to know how you would grade the latest season for Manchester United across the last year? Would you grade the season as ultimately a success? Or does the poor start negate any positives that came towards the end?

Let us know your grades in the comments, and leave us a prediction for how you think the club will fare next season.

Calling Time 👋 With Pep Guardiola set to leave M Calling Time 👋

With Pep Guardiola set to leave Manchester City it seems like his time in England is coming to an end, and while he has certainly made an impact not only at Manchester City but within English football more generally, his future remains up in the air.

As he didn’t take much time between the Bayern and City jobs, he may decide a sabbatical similar to Klopp this season is needed, possibly moving away from the club game entirely with the post World Cup fallout likely to open up some international opportunities. It’s impossible to imagine him staying in England, or returning to Spain or Germany in a club capacity, while France would only offer PSG who are sorted in a managerial sense. The only other major league possible would be Serie A, where a club like Napoli could appeal to Guardiola, however it’s unlikely he would be ready to jump straight back into club management, especially at a club like Napoli.

While the future will show us what comes next, what are your predictions for where Pep Guardiola will end up in his next managerial job? Or do you think we may have actually seen him in his final role in football management with a career change or role change planned in the future?

An Odd Move 🟦 Despite heavy links to Liverpool as An Odd Move 🟦

Despite heavy links to Liverpool as a replacement for the underperforming Arne Slot, Xabi Alonso has been confirmed as the new Chelsea manager, following up his stint at the chaos of Real Madrid with arguably equal chaos at Chelsea.

For Chelsea this feels like a great appointment, as Alonso remains one of the most exciting young managers on the market, with his reputation in the game something that the players at Chelsea have lacked in recent months, and a feeling that he could develop many of their young stars while building something promising at the club who have underwhelmed and looked lost this season.

However, given the chaos at Chelsea, the intefering ownership structure, huge turnover of playing staff, questionable finances, lack of European football and his links to the Liverpool job, this seems a baffling decision by Alonso, who walked straight from the Real Madrid frying-pan into the Chelsea fire. It’s a strange appointment which suggest the club have surely made promises to Alonso, or the Liverpool hierarchy didn’t seem fully interested this summer.

Whatever the reasoning for the move, Alonso to Chelsea feels like an odd appointment, but if anyone can get them back to their best, he seems like a pretty good option.

What are your thoughts on Chelsea appointing Alonso? And do you think this time next season he will still be in the job?

Manchester United: Nottingham Forest (Premier Leag Manchester United: Nottingham Forest (Premier League) ✍️

United never like to do things the easy way, and we saw that once again as they beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 to secure the 3rd place in the table for the season, while saying goodbye to Casemiro and a few others ahead of the summer, and helping Bruno Fernandes to equal the Premier League assist record as Old Trafford saw it’s final action for the campaign. The game provided plenty of drama and excitement as United begin to look ahead with the permanent appointment of Michael Carrick to be announced very soon.

Correct Appointment 🟥 With Michael Carrick not qu Correct Appointment 🟥

With Michael Carrick not quite confirming his permanent appointment as Manchester United manager, it’s now fully expected in just a matter of time as the season concludes and final contracts are signed.

With the appointment also likely to feature his current backroom staff staying on at the club, and with the mood feeling positive and optimistic after securing 3rd spot in the table, the structure and feeling feels calmer, more upbeat and certainly in harmony.

Although other managers have been linked, Carrick’s efforts put him as the permanent appointment, with most other big names preoccupied by the World Cup or their current club roles. As a result, it makes sense to me that Carrick is given at least a season to prove himself, with United able to hold on longer if they decide to look elsewhere as a longer-term target next summer.

What are your thoughts on the permanent appointment of Carrick? Do you think he should carry on as he has done this season? Or do you think United should have pushed for an external appointment?
