With all the Euro 2020 drama now in the background, and with a short break before club football returns, all eyes turn to the transfer window, and who will and won’t be making big money moves this summer. Every single football outlet is putting out hundreds of ridiculous rumours generated by some AI machine in Jim White’s basement I assume, and as we judge those outlets for doing that, we are about to do the exact same thing.

We’ve picked out our 5 biggest potential movers and shakers from this summers’ window, and rated them out of 10 for likeliness to leave their current club, along with putting together a brief shortlist of where they could realistically end up should they move. Now, all of these at time of writing are pure speculation and intrigue, but we’ve been right once or twice before (once), so let’s keep speculating until we get something else right.

Harry Kane

Likeliness to move: 8/10

Possible destinations: Manchester City, Real Madrid, Manchester United, PSG

Almost every major European footballing side (outside of Germany) is on the hunt for a striker this summer, or needs one urgently, and Tottenham currently have possibly one of the top players in that position in the world, and he wants out. Despite being a club talisman, the talk and discussion from Kane’s camp is that he has finally hit the realisation that to win trophies he must leave Tottenham. Therefore, we have a player who seems destined for a huge move this summer, or at least a guarantee for next summer arranged with one of Europe’s elite. My money would be on City as Pep would be looking for an Agüero replacement sooner rather than later and Kane fits the bill from both sides of the deal. This is the headline grabber for sure, and one to keep your eye on.

Jack Grealish

Likeliness to move: 7/10

Possible destinations: Manchester City, Manchester United

Grealish has seemed destined to leave Villa for the past few years, however through sheer loyalty to the club, he has remained ever-present for the side as they have now secured their place in the Premier League and seem comfortable for the coming season and possibly beyond. At this point would seem a good time for both parties to make the move, as Villa can cash in at the peak price, while Grealish can leave in the comfort of knowing he hasn’t tarnished his legacy at the club and remains a Villa legend destined to return and finish his career in the midlands for sure.

Lionel Messi

Likeliness to move: 5/10

Possible destinations: Manchester City, Argentina, MLS

Barcelona are an absolute shambles at the moment, drowning in a sea of debt and uncertainty, their talismanic figure and money-printing machine Lionel Messi may well have his time at the club coming to an end. With contract issues being the big talking point of the summer, Messi may decide that this mess of a club is too far gone from the one he joined all those years ago. Personally, I want Messi to stay as a 1 club player as despite the criticism of this, for me Messi is Barcelona, and Barcelona is Messi. The iconic imagery of Messi lining up for Barcelona simply doesn’t work in any other colours, and so I think it’s a genuine 50/50 as to what will happen with the goat this summer.

Erling Haaland

Likeliness to move: 1/10

Possible destinations: Manchester United, Manchester City, Real Madrid

Haaland will leave Dortmund at some point, but not this summer for sure. With Sancho out of the door, Dortmund will flat-out refuse to love Haaland as well, and instead will spend this year preparing and scouting to replace the goal machine in the summer of 2022. Where he will end up then I’m not sure, but for this summer I think it’s a shut-shop for Haaland.

Gareth Bale

Likeliness to move: 3/10

Possible destinations: Tottenham Hotspur, MLS, Cardiff City

Honestly, I don’t know what’s gonna happen to Bale this summer, and it could either be that we see him tearing it up in La Liga this season, or we might never see him play club football again. After a superb Euro’s I imagine Madrid will be interested if they can only get the right version of Bale playing in Spain. We have seen his talent in England, Spain and on the international stage, but his career direction after the mediocre return to Spurs is uncertain once again. It won’t be a big money move whatever happens next, but he’s a player to keep your eye on this summer for sure.
