POTM (Premier League) – May 2024

May sees us reach the end of another dramatic season, and with final placings now wrapped up, we can reflect on the final rounds of fixtures, in which some players have certainly not been on the beach already as they have hit another gear to round off the season.
Jean-Philippe Mateta has been on top form as he helped Palace to 3 wins from their final 3 games, and bagged 5 of their 12 goals in the process. It’s been a month to remember for the Eagles, and they certainly will have been wishing the games could go on a bit further with this dominant form to end the campaign.

May 6th: Crystal Palace 4-0 Manchester United – Opening the month and the final 3 games of the season, Palace put Manchester United to the sword, with Mateta, Olise and Mitchell making light work of Ten Hag’s side. Mateta only bagged one in this game, playing 68 minutes of the dominant win, but this kick-started a run of scoring which sees him well worthy of the award.
May 11th: Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-3 Crystal Palace – Helping Palace to go 2 ahead inside of 30 minutes, Mateta added his contribution after Olise bagged the opener. With his second goal in as many games, he was withdrawn towards the closing stages with his work done and Palace looking at another win to round off the season.
May 19th: Crystal Palace 5-0 Aston Villa – Ending the season in style, Mateta bagged 3 of Palace’s 5 goals, to bring his May tally up to 5 goals across 3 games in which Palace went on a winning end, scoring 12 goals and conceding just 1 as they surely wished the season could keep going. With Mateta also claiming an assist in this dominant display, he rounded off the season in top form.
