POTM: PL (March 2026)

Although the second half of the month in March has been taken over by international football, the first half of the month had a packed calendar with domestic and European games taking place daily. As a result, picking our Premier League player of the month has been a battle between goal scorers, goal contributors and the defensive solidity shown by others.

Bruno Fernandes has had a record breaking month, as he has bagged 2 goals and 4 assists in just 4 outings, breaking the Manchester United assist record for a single season. With plenty of games to go, he is also getting closer to the Premier League record and sits just 4 behind the current record of 20 assists in a season held by Henry and De Bruyne. It’s fair to say that with Champions League football all-but confirmed, Bruno might have one eye on that record.

Match By Match

March 1st: Manchester United 2-1 Crystal Palace – Opening the month in a fairly dramatic start as United fell 1-0 down early, the red card for Lacriox meant Bruno could equal things up from the penalty spot, as he then set up Sesko minutes later for the winner, starting his month with a man of the match showing thanks to his goal and assist.

March 4th: Newcastle United 2-1 Manchester United – In Michael Carrick’s first defeat in his role as United manager, Bruno was still involved in the goals as he bagged the assist for Manchester United’s equalising goal just minutes after they went behind and just before the break. Although they couldn’t capitalise on this against a 10-man Newcastle, Bruno still showed his level.

March 15th: Manchester United 3-1 Aston Villa – In what was a key match in United’s season as they look to secure themselves in the top 4, and following Carrick’s first defeat, United and Fernandes were near perfect as he bagged 2 assists to break the Manchester United assist record, and put him just 4 away from the all-time Premier League record also. With plenty of games to go for this record, United look set for Champions League qualification, and Bruno could finish the season with even more records broken.

March 20th: Bournemouth 2-2 Manchester United – While the final result will be a disappointing end to a terrific month for Manchester United and Bruno Fernandes, he was once again pivotal in his efforts in secure a point on the south coast, with his 61st minute penalty opening the scoring, and also his corner being the goal which was eventually turned in as an own goal 10 minutes later. Bringing his month total to 2 goals and 4 assists in just 4 outings, Bruno Fernandes has once again proven his worth at Manchester United and arguably taken it to another level.
