POTM (Europe) – May 2024

POTM (Europe) – May 2024

May sees the closing rounds of fixtures across the domestic calendar, and as a result, some teams have pushed for silverware, some have been scrapping for European spots, some battling against relegation and others settling into their mid-table spots. No matter the final standings, we’ve seen plenty of top performances to close out another dramatic year of footballing action.

Ricardo Calafiori has been in top form to see out an impressive campaign for Bologna, with 2 clean sheets, and 2 goals in the final 3 appearances he made in the season. Having put his side in European competition for his attacking and defensive efforts, he was unbeaten in his efforts, while he sat on the bench for the final outing in which Bologna lost their unbeaten end to the campaign. Nevertheless, a strong effort from the centre-back to round off a strong season.

Match By Match

May 3rd: Torino 0-0 Bologna: In the opening fixture of the month, there wasn’t much to write about in this stalemate, however Calafiori managed a clean sheet to start the month, as he held out the Torino attack throughout and limited their opportunities.

May 11th: Napoli 0-2 Bologna: With another clean sheet to his name, this time against a more impressive attack, Calafiori bagged an assist for Bologna’s second inside of 12 minutes, putting them firmly in control of the game, and then solid defensive work to keep the opposition out.

May 20th: Bologna 3-3 Juventus: With the game the put Calafiori ahead of others in the POTM standings, he bagged a brace from centre-back against Juventus as the points were shared. While this attacking performance outshone the defensive weaknesses shown to concede 3 goals, anyone in defence bagging twice is deserving of recognition.

May 24th: Genoa 2-0 Bologna: Finally seeing out the season, Calafiori didn’t make an appearance as Bologna were beaten by Genoa to round things off. While this will have been a disappointing end to their impressive campaign, it doesn’t harm Calafiori much as he can shake off the responsibility of this one.
