POTM (Europe) – May 2023

In May 2023, Nicolas Jackson was in spectacular form for Villarreal CF, delivering a series of decisive performances that earned him our Player of the Month. Across five league matches, he scored five goals and provided two assists, playing a key role in Villarreal’s push for European qualification. Jackson’s pace, movement, and clinical finishing made him a constant threat, and his contributions often turned games in Villarreal’s favour.

May 3rd: Valencia 1-1 Villarreal – Jackson started the month with an away draw at Valencia, scoring in the 62nd minute to level the match. His positioning inside the box and calm finishing allowed Villarreal to earn a vital point on the road. Despite the draw, Jackson’s goal demonstrated his knack for stepping up in crucial moments.
May 13th: Villarreal 5-1 Athletic Club – At home against Athletic Club, Jackson was electric, scoring twice in a dominant 5–1 win. He opened the scoring to give Villarreal the lead and later added a second in the second half. His sharp movement, timing, and composure in front of goal made him the standout player on the pitch, helping Villarreal secure one of their most emphatic victories of the month.
May 20th: Girona 1-2 Villarreal – In an away fixture at Girona, Jackson showcased his creative side. He provided two assists, setting up the first goal and the injury‑time winner that sealed a 2–1 comeback for Villarreal. His link-up play, vision, and movement were pivotal in breaking down Girona’s defence and securing three crucial points.
May 24th: Villarreal 2-0 Cadiz – Jackson continued his hot streak with another brace in a home victory over Cádiz. He scored the opening goal early in the match and added a second before halftime, effectively putting the game out of reach. His constant threat in the final third and precise finishing underscored his importance to Villarreal’s attack.
May 28th: Rayo Vallecano 2-1 Villarreal – In the final league game of May, Villarreal suffered a 2–1 defeat at Rayo Vallecano. Jackson did not score but remained active, constantly testing the defense and looking to create chances. Although the team lost, his work rate and attacking presence were evident throughout the match.
