POTM: Europe (January 2026)

The start of a new year means entering full-steam ahead into the second half of the domestic football season, and with the summer World Cup on the horizon, teams and players are keen to start the year in style to cement their standing or push on further to secure a strong finish to their respective seasons.
January 2026 proved to be a spectacular statement month for Michael Olise, whose influence at Bayern Munich surged to new heights immediately after the winter break, with each game offering a different shade of his attacking brilliance.

January 11th: Bayern Munich 8-1 Wolfsburg – After a 45 minute cameo in the friendly win over Salzburg, Bayern and Olise kick-started 2026 with a huge win, in which Bayern bagged 8, with 2 goals and 1 assist from the French forward. A dominant display from player and club to start the year and show Bayern have no signs of easing off in the new year.
January 14th: Koln 1-3 Bayern Munich – Although a slightly less dominant display in their second game of the year, Bayern’s win over Koln provided another assist for Olise as Bayern kept their 100% record going, and another contribution for their latest superstar talent.
January 17th: RB Leipzig 1-5 Bayern Munich – If the 2 goals and 2 assists so far wasn’t enough, another dominant display saw Olise bag 3 assists and a goal as RB Leipzig were the next victims of Bayern’s dominant attacking displays. A 9.6/10 FotMob rating for his strongest showing of the month ahead of the Champions League return.
January 24th: Bayern Munich 2-1 Augsburg – Keeping his goal contributions running for the year, Bayern picked up a mid-week win in the Champions League in which they beat Union St. Gilloise, with another Olise assist, he again turned provider despite Bayern suffering an end to their unbeaten run as they were beaten at home to Augsburg. A disappointment for the club, but Olise stays solid with his contributions.
January 31st: Hamburger SV 2-2 Bayern Munich – With Bayern getting back on track in their next Champions League game as Olise’s goal contribution run came to an end with his cameo in the win, he got back involved in the goal action with an assist as Bayern again stumbled with a draw away at Hamburg. A disappointing end to the month for Bayern, but with his 8 assists and 3 goals from 7 competitive appearances across all competitions, Olise is off to a flying start as Bayern look heavy favourites for another trophy-filled season.
