POTM (Europe) – February 2025

February saw another busy month of action, with league football, domestic cups and European football all kicking into high gear as the season enters its final phase. With lots of action to cover from the month, and with games taking place almost daily, there were another few key standouts from the month across Europe’s top leagues.
This months NextGoalWinner player of the month winner is a player who has been key in helping his team continue their push for the top 4 in Spain, and possibly even maybe be in with a shout of a title push. Having helped his team secure an unbeaten run of games throughout February, his goals and contributions have been key.
Oihan Sancet has been a non-stop goal threat in February, and across the 4 games, he produced 6 goals and helped his side secure 5 of their 8 points in the month. With an unbeaten month of La Liga action, he has truly helped drag his team through some tricky clashes.

Match By Match
February 2nd: Real Betis 2-2 Athletic Club – Starting off the month in goalscoring fashion, Sancet helped salvage a point for Athletic after Betis twice took the lead in their league clash. With his first goal of the month setting his side off to their unbeaten month, his goal and being the most accurate passer (95%) brought a quite low 6.8/10 FotMob rating in his opener, with the best still to come.
February 8th: Athletic Club 3-0 Girona – And the best didn’t take long to follow, as Sancet bagged all 3 goals in the dominant win over Girona. With his opener from the penalty spot in the 42nd minute, he added a second just before the break, and then rounded off the hattrick in the 79th minute. With his 4 goals from 2 games in February, he was of course POTM in this clash, as he produced 7 shots, 100% long ball accuracy and of course his 3 finishes which brought a 9.7/10 FotMob rating.
February 16th: Espanyol 1-1 Athletic Club – After the dominant win in the previous week, Athletic Club were forced to fight for a point away at Espanyol, and it was Sancet who once again salvaged the draw for his side. The Spanish midfielder equalled the scoring in the 77th minute to settle a 1-1 draw, and add his 5th goal for the month, and contributing to 5 out of 6 goals scored by Athletic Club in the 3 games thus far. While the draw and dropped 2 points may come back to haunt the club come the end of the season and their battle for top 4, Sancet seemed determined to drag his side through to Champions League qualification.
February 23rd: Athletic Club 7-1 Real Valladolid – With their most dominant victory of the month, Athletic Club ran riot as they secured an unbeaten month of league action, and claimed a strong result against the league’s bottom side. Of course Sancet got himself on the scoresheet as he bagged the 4th to properly put the game to bed just before the half-time break. Although perhaps overshadowed on the day by Nico Williams’ display, and all round team performance, Sancet’s strike brought his total to 6 goals in 4 appearances in an unbeaten month of action, more than worthy of this month’s award.
