POTM (Europe) – April 2025

POTM (Europe) – April 2025

April brought about the penultimate month of action across Europe’s domestic football calendar, and with it, several teams still pushing for success and glory of titles, European qualification, or even just survival. In these battles, we saw players pushing themselves to give everything they could and put in maximum efforts to ensure they weren’t to let down their clubs or fans in the final stages of the season.

This months NextGoalWinner player of the month winner is a player who has been a true revelation this season, and become an instant hero of Naples, as he has been unbelievably influential in terms of goals and assists, while his playing style also catches the eye of those with an interest in Italian football. As a result of his efforts, he has helped push his side close to securing a famous title win, with Inter breathing down their necks to the final weeks.

Scott McTominay has had a fantastic month in April, helping Napoli to an unbeaten month of action, winning 3 and drawing 1 in their games, with McTominay being responsible for 5 goals in his 4 games, making up over 70% of the clubs goals in the month. McTominay leaving Manchester United last summer looks like one of the best deals made by a player departing the Premier League, and the admiration he gets from the Napoli fans is an advert for any player considering a move abroad this summer.

Match By Match

April 7th: Bologna 1-1 Napoli – McTominay started the month with his lowest rated performance, as he earned a 6.7/10 FotMob rating in the draw with Bologna, which could have been concerning given their close title race battle with Inter. Playing just 70 minutes after picking up a knock, he wasn’t able to get on the scoresheet or really influence the game. Despite this, he still maintained 90% pass accuracy, 100% dribble success, 100% long ball accuracy and made 6 clearances.

April 14th: Napoli 3-0 Empoli – After the average showing against Bologna, it became 3 man of the match showings in the remaining 3 games for McTominay. He started these with a brace against Empoli, while also having the most tackles (2), hitting the woodwork and winning the most duels (10). A deserved 9.4/10 FotMob rating followed and McTominay just continued from there.

April 19th: Monza 0-1 Napoli – The run of goals and performances took McTominay to Monza, where his 72nd minute goal was the difference in the clash. Having also drawn the most fouls (4), winning the most duels (10), 100% dribbles success and 100% aerial duels won, it was not only a match winning strike, but a dominant display that earned a crucial 3 points for his side.

April 27th: Napoli 2-0 Torino – Ending the month with his third straight man of the match performance, and goals number 4 and 5 for the month, McTominay’s 7th and 41st minute strikes were the difference makers in the home win against Torino. Again drawing the most fouls (3), maintaining 90% pass accuracy, 100% shot accuracy, 100% dribble success and 100% tackles won, his 8.9/10 FotMob rating rounded off a near perfect month for the midfielder, at a crucial time as Napoli headed into their final run of games in the quest for the title.
