Off-Field – FM21 Beta Weirdest Signings
The Football Manager 2021 beta has been out for close to a week now, and already like millions of others, I have been sinking almost all my free time into the latest edition of the management simulator. As with all previous editions, my journey so far has been filled with near sackings (not yet however *fingers crossed*), dramatic late winners, sleepless nights worrying about my next tactical decision, and most importantly… signings.
In just a week of it’s release, and with only a couple of hours of playtime under my belt, the game has already delivered some wild transfer sagas in both my own club and others in the game. Additionally, I put a call out on Twitter to see what random or odd signings you lot have been able to pull off, or witnessed in the beta so far. Despite little/no response (totally not offended), I was not deterred and as a result, here is my ‘current’ weirdest transfer that has occurred to date in the Football Manager 2021 beta, and I will continue to try and update this post as and when more occur.
Please feel free to drop us a tweet if any mad signings occur in any of your saves (@NextGoalWinBlog), or perhaps some signings you just haven’t been able to get over the line. We’d love to hear from you and include some of your stories…
Enjoy!
Yaya Touré – Motherwell
Barcelona, Manchester City, Olympiacos, Qingdao Huanghai and then… Motherwell, that is the career path of the last 10 years of the once Spanish treble winner and 4 time African footballer of the year. Now, admittedly he has shown he wants to keep playing, once allegedly stating he would play for £1 a week in order to play for Manchester United and Arsenal, however I can assure you he charges much more to move to the South-East of Glasgow, and my board will support that statement.
This is no the first time I’ve tried to sign Yaya Touré in his twilight career years, however this is the first time it has been successful, and I find it rather amusing to imagine the legendary player rocking up to Fir Park to play for the ‘Well.
In his first few weeks at the club (I am only a few months into this save), he has been fairly solid. Surprisingly, he didn’t want to be club captain, or have too many egotistical demands that rile the squad up, only requesting to be a squad player in his contract, and no other real demands other than the obvious financial incentive. In the first 6 games of the season, he bagged 1 goal and 3 assists, starting all 6 and making the full 90 in 5/6 games. This has been helpful in securing a 2nd place spot and breathing down the neck of Rangers. Should this form continue, Motherwell may finally be able to break the dominance of Celtic / Rangers.
After a few more months of having the star midfielder playing in the Scottish Premiership however, I may have to cut him loose and actually scout some upcoming new talent, as the finances of Motherwell are surprisingly limited to afford the £200,000+ weekly wages of multi-time Champions League winners.
So the club may be crumbling into bankruptcy, however his performances on the pitch have been superb (to date), so you know… you win some you bankrupt some, Que Sera Sera.
Drop us a Tweet @NextGoalWinBlog to tell us your weirdest or possibly greatest ever signing on Football Manager, we’d love to hear from you…
