January Transfer Window 2021
The January transfer window is often a strange time in football. Over recent years we have seen some of the biggest and best transfers to arrive and leave the Premier League in the opening days of a new year, however in the last season there has been a huge reluctance to make big deals mid-season. Instead, clubs prefer to bring players in with pre-season to get up to speed. While this makes sense, it makes the month or rumours and speculation a bit more average. Instead of the likes of Sancho, Mbappe, and possibly even Messi moving, we had loan deals for youngsters and clubs opting to have a little clear out of their wage bill.
Therefore, while some signings are incredibly exciting and will surely be worth keeping an eye on (the likes of Ødegaard and Diallo spring to mind), on the most part, the outgoings have been higher. Whether or not this would be the case had we not had a delayed season last year and the subsequent fatigue and loss of earnings, I’m not massively sure, however we will see if any of these moves can change a clubs’ fortunes this season.
So, allow us to do a brief round-up of all the Premier League clubs’ incomings and outgoings of the past month, and give a little insight into where players have come from and where they’re going.
