International Breaks ⚽️ With another internation International Breaks ⚽️

With another international break wrapping up, we’ve had 3 pauses within the club season already this campaign, and while the World Cup qualifiers have provided some degree of quality, it’s been largely underwhelming with many major nations already into the tournament, and whole rounds of games with little/nothing on the line.

Every international break the question rolls around, but surely something has to be done to work on this. With a hectic calendar already stretched to the limit, I think giving the month of January to international games would make perfect sense.

The festive period is great for football, and having a full first half of the season to build up the games, would allow for some excitement and momentum to build. By splitting the season in this way, you get a whole transfer window for clubs to improve, reset and rebuild, and then a second half which gets teams pushing through to the summer. Additionally, tournaments such as AFCON would have less of an impact, and the Euro/World Cup qualifiers could create mini-tournaments where international managers get a prolonged spell with their sides.

What are your thoughts on this? Would you rather keep things spread over the season? Or would you rather have a whole month dedicated to international games?

England’s World Cup XI ✍️ With England qualified England’s World Cup XI ✍️

With England qualified for the World Cup, and looking strong under Tuchel, there are still plenty of questions and decisions left to be made, with selection headaches and tactical tweaks to come before the tournament begins next summer.

In our latest blog post, we’ve made a prediction for the starting XI that will start the tournament for England, and while there will be consistent changes, and likely injury, form and fatigue issues by the end of a long domestic season, if all options were available, we think England will go with our chosen XI.

Check out the picks using the link in our bio, and leave us a comment to let us know who you’d pick to open the tournament for England.

FPL Advice 🎮 After 11 rounds of games, and despi FPL Advice 🎮

After 11 rounds of games, and despite selecting my squad carefully each round, I’m in the bottom rankings of the world for FPL this season. Having made a poor opening selection where I expected certain players to start strongly, things haven’t improved much despite my changes. I’ve often been falling behind the points averages, and I need to get back on track before the season is a complete bust.

What advice and tips do you have for fixing my squad for the remainder of the season? Do you think a huge overhaul is needed, or do you have a few gems that you could recommend to get me back on track?

England’s Chances 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 After qualifying with England’s Chances 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

After qualifying with relative ease, Tuchel has only seen 1 real slip up in a friendly game, and while his media efforts might be a mark on his record, the on-field results have been strong, but what are England’s chances?

On paper, they have some of the world’s top talents who could all be hitting form and a career peak at the right time for the tournament, but with a media and fanbase who can be quick to turn, a manager that didn’t receive a full backing from all stakeholders and question marks over selection and getting all the top talent into the squad, could England again fall short?

What are your thoughts on England’s chances for the upcoming World Cup? Do you think they are going in as favourites, or is another knockout round exit on the cards?

In a repeat of the Europa League final last year, Manchester United travelled to a new-look Spurs eager for revenge and to continue their unbeaten run. For Tottenham, their up and down form has seen questions over new manager Thomas Frank, however both sides could hit 2nd in the table with a win on Saturday lunchtime. With several narratives across the clash, it provided a strong start to the weekend of football action.

Danny Welbeck ⚽️ At 34 years of age, it might se Danny Welbeck ⚽️

At 34 years of age, it might seem odd for a player to be put forward by fans for an England call-up, especially given that the World Cup is only a handful of games away, however Danny Welbeck is certainly showing the form of a player that should have been considered.

This season, he’s bagged 6 in 12 at time of writing, and while nobody would expect him to come in ahead of the prolific Kane, having Welbeck as a cool, experienced head to play back-up could be a strong option, especially considering that Tuchel has consistently chosen Henderson and a few others for their experience alone.

While this streak of form might just be a short-lived spell in the twilight of his career, it feels to me a bit harsh for Welbeck to not be given a chance in the latest squad selection, especially given these are now just glorified friendlies to see out the year.

Do you think Welbeck should have been picked for England at this latest selection? Or is he just enjoying a brief hot streak?

Getting The Best 🟥 The pressure on Ruben Amorim h Getting The Best 🟥

The pressure on Ruben Amorim has certainly calmed for now after a solid run of games which has seen them unbeaten in their last 4 outings. However, questions still remain as to the system operated, and whether this gets the best of the talent at his disposal.

Names such as Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo, Joshua Zirkzee and Diogo Dalot are all players being played slightly out of their preferred role, or kept out of the XI due to their style not quite suiting the managers system. Many of these are fan-favourites, and so by sticking rigidly with the system, it has to be assumed that a few wrong results could again see pressure rise.

Do you think that Amorim will ever get the best from these key players? Do you think it matters ultimately if the team find success? And would you sacrifice seeing some fan-favourites playing regularly if it means the team wins games?

VAR (More Or Less?) ⚽️ We’ve pretty much unanimo VAR (More Or Less?) ⚽️

We’ve pretty much unanimously decided within the footballing world that VAR has damaged the game more than helped, yet the decisions are often seen as accurate when compared with the pre-VAR world. Furthermore, it often is something fans cry out for when decisions go against them, especially seen in recent decisions over wrongly awarded corner kicks, and other definitive decisions that technology can’t intervene upon... so do we want more or less VAR?

For me, VAR should be used for clear definitive decisions such as offsides, ball in or out and clear right or wrong calls. However, the decisions where it turns subjective, the technology should be involved but purely for the referee to get a better look, and have no other input than those on the pitch. The referee should be allowed to use the screens for replays, but nobody should be involved other than that.

Where do you stand currently with VAR? Do you think we need even more for some key decisions, or should it be stripped back entirely?

The Championship 🏆 I’m a bit ashamed to say that The Championship 🏆

I’m a bit ashamed to say that despite the league entering the 13th round of fixtures this weekend, I’ve really neglected the Championship so far. Partly due to putting more focus onto the European leagues this season and what’s going on elsewhere, I haven’t really kept up to date with things in the second tier.

As a result, I want to know from anyone who watches the league more closely, what have I missed so far? Catch us up on everything we’ve been missing, and what to be looking out for as we head towards the end of 2025. Share your thoughts with us in the comments, and hopefully we can get caught up and feature more from the second division as the season plays out.

Liam Rosenior 🇫🇷 While Strasbourg’s recent impro Liam Rosenior 🇫🇷

While Strasbourg’s recent improvements within French football may be overlooked due to their multi-club structure with Chelsea, the work of Liam Rosenior deserves a huge amount of praise.

Getting his side into the Europa Conference League last season, they’ve made a strong start to Ligue 1 this year, and with 4 points from their opening 2 European clashes, they have also held PSG to a dramatic 3-3 draw, while playing a young and exciting XI who along with Marseille, could be able to push the inevitable PSG from their domestic perch, and make the league into a dramatic contest as possible European success could also remain a realistic target.

What are your thoughts on Rosenior’s Strasbourg this season? And do you think they could realistically compete with PSG in the division this year?

Harry Maguire 🟥 After the match winner against ri Harry Maguire 🟥

After the match winner against rivals Liverpool, Harry Maguire has completed his redemption from being a joke within football after harsh criticism upon his arrival at Manchester United, to now being a composed leader and example to many who want to overcome setbacks and work hard to return to the top table in the game. With his late goals becoming a big feature of United in recent years, he has also maintained a strong leadership within the club, marshalling the defensive unit and even taking the captains armband on several occasions once again.

As a result, he continues to battle for a starting spot at the club, and has even gotten people wondering if he’s worth a punt back in the England squad for next summers tournament, as England could do with a late switch for set pieces, or possibly someone with experience who can be relied upon in a similar mould to Henderson and Kane. While he likely wouldn’t be the starting centre-back, he could certainly do a job for Tuchel’s England side, especially if there’s a temptation to try out a 3-man defence.

What are your thoughts on Maguire returning to the England squad for the World Cup? Do you think they should look elsewhere? Or has he shown a useful option for the squad next summer?
