European Qualification 🏆

With the potential for half of the Premier League teams to potentially end the season in European places, I am interested at the real and genuine prospect that so many clubs could reach a European spot by the end of the campaign, and wonder if it’s too much?

It’s great for the clubs to have the European adventures and genuinely be able to win European silverware as we saw with West Ham and the huge success this was for the club. However, it almost makes some of the league feel a bit redundant as so many teams could reach the qualification spots without having to do much other than finish in the top half.

Personally, I have really enjoyed the conference league and the new look European formats for this season, but I do worry that by diluting the product it makes everything around football competition become lesser in some way.

What are your thoughts on the potential for so many teams to qualify for Europe? Do you see it as a positive for the clubs and fans, or do you worry it could become a little bit too diluted if this continues.

After another week for Amorim to work some magic on the training ground, it was a case of trying to find a fit and healthy XI for the short trip to Everton on Saturday morning. With the Goodison crowd turning the ground into a force once again, the hosts have been revitalised to an extend by David Moyes, and the former United manager was surely out for some sense of vengeance after his short-lived tenure at the club. From one former United manager to the current struggling manager, there were still signs of improvement needed as we head into some make or break weeks for United in cup competition.

Any Way Back? 🟥

With the recent improvements in the performances from Manchester United’s loanees, do you think there is likely to be a way back to the club for them come the end of the season?

The likes of Rashford, Antony and even Sancho have shown an upturn in form and positivity in their performances, and with United so lacking in depth and their ability to enter the transfer market for incomings even in the summer months, is it likely that any of these players will return to Old Trafford and revive their place in the side?

I guess this will also bring up questions of whether the players themselves would even want to return to the club given how most felt pushed out or cut from the thoughts of the current and previous managers.

It seems like such a strange dynamic that a club so struggling for players given the injuries and lack of goals that are available are forced to watch on while their own players perform at the top level for other clubs.

Would you like to see any of the current loanee’s returning to United’s XI or are you happy for the club to permanently cut ties with these players and then look to recruit with the next crop of potential players who could replace them?

After a whole week to prepare from Friday-Sunday, Manchester United travelled to an equally out of form Tottenham, however during the week preparations, Amorim took over the injury curse from opposing manager Postecoglou as several first team options suffered injuries and illness, which led to a subs bench with very limited experience.

With very limited options for Amorim, the XI that started the game had plenty of work to do, which was made even tougher after Maddison followed up the rebound to put Tottenham ahead. Despite United improving as the game went on, they lacked a clinical edge in their finishing which meant that Tottenham claimed their 3rd victory over United this season, and leaves Amorim’s side heading back north in 15th place in the table.

Finding Success Elsewhere 🚪

With Antony scoring goals like never before for Real Betis, Marcus Rashford showing some bright sparks in his early Villa performances and even Anthony Martial bagging goals over in Greece, the line of former United players who are finding success elsewhere continues. With this being the case for the entire post-Ferguson era, its a strange question that there doesn’t seem to be a clear answer for... Why do players perform better after leaving Manchester United?

I understand the argument that the club aren’t in a good state currently, but this is a new manager, fairly new ownership structure and a consistently changing squad. So a lot of these players have struggled under various ways of working at Old Trafford and yet as soon as they leave they recover form, become fit and ready to play and find genuine joy in playing football once again. I honestly can’t figure out what consistent factors have led to this change from players leaving, or maybe it’s just that they get away from the negativity that oozes out of the club.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think we’re just seeing a brief change in form for these players after leaving, or do you think there’s more to it? If so, what do you put this down to from leaving Manchester United and suddenly showing their best once again.

Premier League Week 25 ✍️

After a round of FA Cup action, the Premier League returned to full force with another round of games. As we head into the final third of the season, the potential title race is opening up slightly but with each passing game it becomes more inevitable that Liverpool will claim their second PL title. This round of games saw Liverpool hold on against Wolves to maintain their lead at the top, while Arsenal kept up the pace despite being not being able to close the gap. Meanwhile, Manchester City showed big improvements in their win over Newcastle, Nottingham Forest stumbled against Fulham and Tottenham picked up a much needed win at home against an equally poor Manchester United side.

With injuries playing a huge part in the seasons of most sides across football this season, we’re seeing the result of constant and never-ending football schedules, elite level athleticism several times a week and a fair bit of bad luck along the way. With many clubs and managers citing the injury concerns as a reason for poor form, we want to pose the question of who is to blame?

Do you put injury blame to the schedulers and those pushing for even more football to take place thus putting players at higher risk of injury? Do you think the players themselves need to take more responsibility for their recovery and workload and express concerns at an earlier stage? Do you think managers need to consider their training workloads to prevent injuries? Do you think clubs themselves need to protect their players by investing in a deeper squad of talent that allows for rotation?

Our POTM awards continued throughout the festive period as we went through every round of games to award a player of the month across the Premier League, and Europe for the month of November. With lots of games taking place, the competition for this award was as tough as it has ever been. With many players having some good spells at times, we’ve gone for someone who has been fairly consistent throughout the entire month and is deserving of this award.

Nothing to Report 🟥

I feel like I’ve noticed a lot in 2025 about how Manchester United’s form really leads the football media following results. When United lose (and admittedly that has become more frequent), the storm brews around the club and we get all the negativity out in the space of a week, however as a positive run of games turns up as we saw in early 2025, this quietens and the media are forced to look for other news.

I find it convenient that a lot of the negative stories come at once, with off-field issues backing up the poor performances, however when things take a small upturn, there’s a lot of silence. Having heard some journalists talking about how their phone rings more when United lose, it feels like United are one of only a small handful of clubs where the media choose to really pile-on the negative stories following a bad result, as I’m sure it leads to more engagement and clicks.

What are your thoughts on the media around Manchester United? Do you think the club get treated differently than others by the main outlets? Do you think the overly critical nature is justified? Do you think the club are hampered by having so many former players working within the media?

Clash Of The Titans 🏆

After the 1st leg between Manchester City and Real Madrid certainly lived up to the hype, both sides have had differing weekend results ahead of their second leg meeting. City were dominant against an in-form Newcastle side, however Real Madrid were unable to maintain their lead in La Liga after drawing with Osasuna which saw Bellingham suffer a controversial red card. With both teams having some extreme ups and downs in their season, this game could be make or break for both clubs.

With Real Madrid holding the lead into the second leg, City will need to shake off any of last week’s disappointments and get going quickly in the away fixture. With Real being the inevitable side within this tournament it will be a tough job, but if City can bring their weekend form to Wednesday’s clash, they might provide yet more entertainment over the next 90 minutes.

With little chance of United getting near the European places in the league this season, the only hopes of success at Old Trafford comes from either the FA Cup or Europa League trophies. With Ten Hag being given time and money from the hierarchy due to cup success in the last 2 seasons, Amorim will be looking for much the same while the league form undergoes a huge transition. It was the visit of Leicester City once again on Friday that posed a challenge, and despite having several games earlier in the season against Leicester, Ruud was in the opposite dugout as his struggling Leicester side also have plenty of pedigree in this competition. With this game kicking off the weekend’s action, there’s plenty of narrative to dissect and look through from this game.

After a quieter few days on the pitch given the midweek victory, United hosted Crystal Palace who have joined the group of teams to find huge successes against United in recent years. Rashford Revival 🟪

One of the biggest talking points of the January transfer window is certainly the saga around Marcus Rashford, and after confirming a loan move with buy option away from his boyhood club, we will see Rashford for the first time in another kit. With potential for a huge coup for Aston Villa among some of their other impressive signings, there are big questions to ponder around the move.

Rashford has over 400 games for Manchester United, 60 for England and has scores over 150 goals at professional level for club and country, and at still just 27 years old, he could revitalise his career at a club who have been flying in recent seasons under Unai Emery. With Dhuran leaving for Saudi this window, Rashford could potential challenge Ollie Watkins, or work alongside in the forward line to help Villa recover their top 4 hopes in the league and continue into the Champions League knockout rounds.

However, with no minutes on the pitch since the 12th December and with the deal only currently listed as a loan, Villa may take an expensive gamble on a player who has been out of favour and out of form, with little time or opportunity to help the player. Every game is crucial for Villa and so getting Rashford up to speed may be tricky, especially given the criticisms over the players training. Emery will be reluctant to give too many chances to a player who doesn’t perform, so this will be make or break time for Marcus Rashford.
