POTM (Premier League) – October 2023

October 2023 was another reminder that Mohamed Salah isn’t just one of Liverpool’s greats, he’s one of the Premier League’s defining figures. When the autumn nights drew in and the title race began to take shape, Salah stepped forward once again, delivering goals, moments, and leadership in equal measure.

Winning the Player of the Month award for October, Salah produced a run of performances that were both spectacular and reliable, the perfect blend for a player who has made excellence feel routine. Across three league matches, he scored five goals, dragged Liverpool through difficult moments, and reaffirmed his status as one of the division’s most decisive players.

Match By Match

October 8th: Brighton 2-2 Liverpool – Liverpool’s trip to Brighton is never straightforward, and this one was no exception. With Liverpool twice falling behind, it was Mohamed Salah who refused to let the points slip away. First, he kept his composure from the penalty spot, calmly sending the goalkeeper the wrong way. Then, when Liverpool needed something special, Salah delivered it, drifting into space, taking a touch, and finishing clinically to level the match late on. It was a classic Salah performance: calm under pressure, ruthless in front of goal, and utterly unbothered by the chaos around him. Without him, Liverpool leave the Amex empty-handed. With him, they escaped with a vital point.

October 21st: Liverpool 2-0 Everton – Derbies demand big players, and Salah has made a habit of rising to the occasion against Everton. At Anfield, he once again proved decisive. With the game finely balanced, Salah broke the deadlock, finishing confidently to send the Kop into celebration. But his influence didn’t stop there. Dropping deep and drifting wide, he helped stretch Everton’s defensive shape and played a crucial role in Liverpool’s second goal as well. Beyond the numbers, this was a mature Salah display, controlled, intelligent, and authoritative. He didn’t just win the game; he managed it.

October 29th: Liverpool 3-0 Nottingham Forest – If the previous two matches showed Salah’s resilience and leadership, this one highlighted his creativity. Against Nottingham Forest, Salah was unplayable. He opened the scoring with a trademark finish and then turned provider, registering two assists with perfectly weighted passes that carved open the Forest defence. This was Salah at his most complete: scoring, creating, and dictating the tempo of Liverpool’s attack. Forest simply couldn’t cope with his movement or decision-making, and Liverpool cruised to a comfortable victory.
