POTM (Premier League) – September 2021

POTM (Premier League) – September 2021

We are now well into the return of the Premier League, and already some players have impressed massively. Although only a few games in, September included the first international break of the season, however in just 3 gameweek’s of Premier League football, there were several contenders for the September POTM award.

September’s award goes to a player who has hit a massive run of form, resulting in him joining the 100 goal Premier League club in an unbelievably short period, Mo Salah. The Liverpool forward is already showing his talent in the competitive start to the season, and with his side winning 2 and drawing the 3rd game this month, Salah was key to these results netting 3 times in the process. Alongside this, he netted 3 times in 2 Champions League games and was involved in the international fixture for Egypt in the process, however we will focus on the Premier League for now.

Match By Match

September 12th: Leeds United 0-3 Liverpool – After the international break, Liverpool got things up and running again with a comprehensive victory at Elland Road, with Salah netting the 1st inside 20 minutes. With an 8.4/10 rating, Salah was on top form, with an individual xG of 1.24, creating 4 chances and having 3 shots in 90 minutes. He also recovered the ball 4 times to help in his defensive responsibilities and was the most fouled player in the game.

September 18th: Liverpool 3-0 Crystal Palace – It was 2 from 2 for Salah as they again eased to a 3-0 victory, with Salah netting the 2nd in the game. With an 8.2/10 rating, he was one of Liverpool’s star players as they cruised to another 3 points. Completing the most dribbles of anyone in the game, he was a real threat throughout, and had a total of 6 shots in 90 minutes. The only mark on this one was his yellow card, however I’m sure he won’t be too concerned after another stellar performance.

September 25th: Brentford 3-3 Liverpool – Although the only mark on a near-perfect month for Liverpool, Salah was still massively on form, netting his 3rd in 3 games, in a superb dramatic matchup. Brentford came from behind twice, however Salah pushed on for the winner until late in the game. With an 8.1/10 rating, Salah earned an individual xG of 1.34 in the game, with 3 shots and 1 chance created. Keeping up his incredible scoring run, he was a star in what was a superb watch for all neutral supporters.
