Chelsea’s Potential 🟦 Having won the Europa Chelsea’s Potential 🟦

Having won the Europa Conference League and Club World Cup at the end of last season, some had lumped Chelsea in with the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and City as possible title contenders, however their start to the season has been up and down to say the least. With many games being lost as the result of their own lack of discipline, injury concerns galore and a lack of consistency, questions remain as to whether Maresca will be the long-term solution, or if they may need to change again in order to step up from top 4 contenders to title challengers.

What do you think is realistic for Chelsea this season? And do you expect Maresca to be at the club at the end of the season?

Manchester United: Brentford (Premier League) ✍️

After the positive result at Old Trafford against Chelsea last weekend, it felt like United could springboard into a string of good results as the games become slightly easier on paper for the next 2 weeks. However, the clash with Brentford brought up yet more repetition of the same issues. A system that doesn’t suit the players, a manager unwilling and possibly unable to change, miscommunication, lapses of concentration, missed chances, disappointing goalkeeping and yet another defeat while the players plod towards the travelling support to stand 50 yards away and applaud their efforts.

Mainoo Dilemma 🟥 What is Ruben Amorim’s prob Mainoo Dilemma 🟥

What is Ruben Amorim’s problem with Kobbie Mainoo?

It seems baffling that an under-pressure manager like Amorim would be so set against playing a player that the entire fanbase and footballing world is crying out for. Given his age, he is more physically capable than Casemiro, his mentality puts him in a less rash position than Ugarte, and his ability to hold the ball puts him at least level with Bruno in the midfield 2. However, Amorim seems like his unwillingness to tweak things could well prove to be the final straw for any in the fan base still backing the manager.

While I can almost understand the unwillingness to change the formation, it feels like putting an extra body in midfield would solve so many problems. 1 less centre-back eases up the communication and organisation issues in defence, the extra midfielder closes a lot of gaps left open for the opposition, while giving United a higher platform to build up play from and it allows their biggest names in Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes to drop deep and push forward respectively, with Mainoo slotting in the versatile ‘no.8’ role.

After asking for a loan move away in the summer, Mainoo seems like he is committed to United long-term, but the denial of the move, stalling contract talks and lack of minutes, and we could quickly see Mainoo push for a permanent move in January if things don’t improve.

One Returning Legend 👑 If you could bring one One Returning Legend 👑

If you could bring one (of the many) legends of Manchester United back to the club to try and revive their fortunes, who would you pick and why?

Would you go for Keane and his leadership and presence on and off the pitch? Would you go for Rooney’s goalscoring prowess? Would you go for a Schmeichel or Van Der Saar to sort the goalkeeping concerns? Or do you have a more unusual pick that you think would fix a problem and help revitalise the club to their former glories?

Let us know who you would pick, and why in the comments.

Ruben Amorim: For & Against ✍️ After last yea Ruben Amorim: For & Against ✍️

After last years disaster, the summer appeared promising for Ruben Amorim at Manchester United, spending big on a new front-line, being given the power to remove several big name players from the club and having some solid pre-season performances. However, in the season itself, it’s been very disappointing, with losses to top sides, dropped points in winnable games and even the Grimsby Town defeat which will remain a feature of the season.

As a result, United remain under pressure to make a decision to either stick with the manager and hope his methods and systems will eventually pay off, and the success he found at Sporting can be replicated. However the alternative would see yet another manager coming in to try and implement a style and system, reset the culture and all the other nonsense that is thrown around. While United can’t afford to throw away another season, they equally cannot be allowed to let this poor form continue much longer, and so we’ve gone through the arguments for and against keeping Ruben Amorim in the dugout, to hopefully allow you to make your own conclusion on whether the manager should stay or not.

Have a look using the link in our bio, and let us know in the comments if you think United should stick or twist with Amorim, and if you think they should change, then who should be the next manager in the firing line.

Style vs Substance ⚽️ This season we are see Style vs Substance ⚽️

This season we are seeing a battle between style and substance on the pitch, as the years of dominating possession and playing exciting attacking football are slowly being replaced by tactical discipline, set-pieces and often grinding out results against resolute defences.

Arsenal have made a decent start to the campaign, however their 90 minute performances have often underwhelmed given the quality they have at their disposal, still looking for set-pieces and setting up defensively away against Liverpool for example. Meanwhile, Liverpool have been more about winning games late in a more scrappy fashion, despite their huge refresh of the forward line.

Ultimately, for a lot of the fanbases it’s becoming more about being ruthless in getting points on the board, than the performance itself. However as a spectacle, it’s not always providing the greatest entertainment with games almost becoming a stalemate for large periods.

Do you think style or substance plays a more important role within football? From a fan perspective, are you happy to win at all costs, or do you think watching entertaining football is much needed within the game to keep the sport interesting?

Manchester United: Chelsea (Premier League) ✍️ Manchester United: Chelsea (Premier League) ✍️

Following last Sunday’s defeat to rivals Manchester City, United have been once again under fire for their efforts and performance, with the same issues recurring once again despite their heavy spending in the summer. With a performance that looked second best from the outset, their next task was against another top 6 side in the form of World Champions Chelsea, who have had an up and down start to the season, but offered a chance for a morale boosting win, or possibly career defining result for Ruben Amorim as he simply cannot afford to let the season disappear once again.

Mourinho’s Legacy 🇵🇹 As Mourinho returns Mourinho’s Legacy 🇵🇹

As Mourinho returns to the club where his managerial career began, in a surprisingly quick return to the game as he becomes the new Benfica manager, his last few years have raised questions over the legacy of a manager when nearing the end of their career.

The likes of Sir Alex and Klopp brought their managerial tenures to an end on their own terms after a successful period, ending with silverware and very much at the top of the game. While it will have been a tough decision to call time, it leaves their legacy untainted and when looking back at the records it will show they reached the pinacle where they stayed until the end of their career.

However, for the likes of Arsene Wenger and certainly Jose Mourinho, they continued on arguably for a bit too long. Wenger found himself with the fans turning against his leadership towards the end, despite the success and respect he had earnt along the way. For Mourinho meanwhile, while he does remain box-office in terms of entertainment, the last few career moves have been fairly underwhelming and for a whole generation of football fans, he is only really known for the high-profile moments on the touchline rather than one of the worlds best.

What are your thoughts on the career of Mourinho? Does the success allow him this strange culmination to his career where he is taking whatever job comes? Or do you think these short term appointments are potentially damaging to his legacy?

After an exciting midweek European schedule, domestic football returned to the forefront, with some exciting fixtures this week. How It’s Going 🟥 Across the season, we’re How It’s Going 🟥

Across the season, we’re going to be providing updates on some big loanees who have made a move away to revive of further their career, including some high profile moves abroad. We’re starting out with a player who had pushed for a dream move abroad to Barcelona as he couldn’t find a resolution at his boyhood club, Marcus Rashford.

Rashford had taken a loan last season to Aston Villa, while waiting and hoping for a Barcelona move this season, and while the loan move has yet to become permanent, the dream transfer he had wanted came about midway through the window, and with the World Cup on the horizon, it’s also led to the forward getting back into contention for an England place in the summer.

In his 3 competitive outings (at time of writing), Rashford has taken a bit-part role at the club as he battles with Raphinha-Lewandowski-Yamal for a place in the front line. He is yet to log a goal contribution, but has been given 6.5, 7.1 and 6.5 /10 ratings for his 3 appearances, and this did lead to him being involved in the 2 England games during the international break in which he scored a penalty. He had also featured in 4 pre-season clashes before the proper stuff got underway, but this was more about getting minutes and fitness than any real indication.

With the player, United and probably Barcelona all keen to make this move work, Rashford needs to keep pushing for minutes, working hard and hopefully getting the goal contributions many would expect, and this could become a successful move for all involved.

We’ve gone through each teams incomings and outgoings across the league, and graded from A+ to F on the business front, discussing how they have either improved, held firm or maybe made a few errors in the market and what impacts this might have in the league.

Stars Of Tomorrow ⭐️ We’ve already seen 15 Stars Of Tomorrow ⭐️

We’ve already seen 15 year old Max Dowman, 16 (now 17) year old Rio Ngumoha and a few others in the Premier League stepping into senior football this season and making an impact, a signal that once again a new batch of young stars for the future could be heading into becoming household names.

While you always must be cautious around expectations on young players, the drop to getting even younger players coming through early means we also have big transfers and moves for clubs to bring academy prospects through before sitting GCSE’s. Given that footballers can play until their mid-30s at the top level, you could be looking at some players who could be at the top of the game for 15-20 years.

While I think these young talents should be given opportunities where suitable, I would also hope they are being well looked after by the clubs, and in the case of a drop in form, injury or any other issues that could arise, they aren’t disposed in the way that we see often in top-level elite football.

Along with some of the players mentioned, have you seen the glimpses from any other youngsters coming through that could become senior players this season?

Manchester United: Manchester City (Premier League Manchester United: Manchester City (Premier League) ✍️

After the international break brought a moment to breathe and reflect for both Manchester sides after fairly underwhelming results thus far, United have actually managed to reclaim some credit for their league outings, winning 1, drawing 1 and losing 1 thus far, but layered with the embarrassing showing against Grimsby Town. Meanwhile, City started very strongly on the opening clash, but then stumbled in the 2 following games, losing to Brighton and Tottenham. As a result, the Manchester derby clash offered intrigue more than some in recent memory, and after the last meeting which massively underwhelmed, this one surely couldn’t be as bad... could it?

Forgotten Men ⚽️ With the transfer windows c Forgotten Men ⚽️

With the transfer windows closing across Europe, there remains some question marks around some big name, high earning talents in the Premier League who remain stuck in no-mans land despite their ability to still provide for their clubs.

The likes of Raheem Sterling, Tyrell Malacia, Axel Disasi among others have all at time of writing become locked in and stuck in their position at their current clubs, clearly out of favour, way behind the pecking order and ultimately looking down the barrel of 4 months minimum without getting any action on the pitch but still picking up some decent payslips.

With the Saudi Pro League possibly offering a last minute route to freedom, it seems more likely that the Premier League will see several forgotten men who have found themselves in a tricky position between having specific wants and needs on a personal level, but missing out in their career prospects as a result.

FPL Decisions 🎮 After the opening 3 rounds of FPL Decisions 🎮

After the opening 3 rounds of fixtures in the Premier League, it’s fair to say some of the FPLs top performers haven’t quite gotten into gear, and it’s been some surprising performers who’ve picked up some early points. As a result, our team has been very poor thus far, and may already be in need to pull the trigger on some major ins and outs to improve things post-international break.

In Transition ⚽️ With both Manchester manage In Transition ⚽️

With both Manchester managers being questioned at the early stage of the season, Guardiola has seen his team win 1 in 3 league games thus far, having won comfortably in the opener, and then suffer poor defeats to Tottenham and Brighton before the international break. Amorim meanwhile, has won 1 in 4, their most recent win in the game against Burnley, but also a draw with Fulham to bring them to 4 points from a possible 9. Their loss to Arsenal showed some positivity, but the Grimsby Town League Cup loss still looms over the club.

With the two sides meeting this upcoming weekend, the City manager is under a different kind of pressure to Amorim, but a win for either team would go a long way to boosting morale, allowing the club to be able to push on and leave the other with many questions to answer.
